High School Program
The Early College Experience (ECE) program provides a way for Connecticut high school students to earn college credit while still in High School. It is an improvement on the AP (Advanced Placement) way of earning college credit because the latter is about teaching to the test, whereas the former is about taking an actual class taught by one of your teachers.
As the ECE Coordinator for the Department of Earth Sciences, I recruit, certify, help train, and visit interested high school teachers. Currently, we have seven active teachers from five high schools teaching three courses:
- ERTH 1051 – Earth’s Dynamic Environment – our main introductory lecture course.
- ERTH 1000E – The Human Epoch: Living in the Anthropocene – a good alternative to Introduction to Environmental Science
- ERTH 2800 – Our Evolving Atmosphere – Our 2000-level introductory course to atmospheric science with a geological flavor.
