Leadership Overview

Mount Kearsarge
Mount Kearsarge, NH. At the largest scale, the topography of New England is an old subhorizontal erosion surface on ancient crystalline rock.

Leadership of groups outside the classroom is an essential part of my chosen profession.  And I greatly appreciate the efforts of those who devote their time this way.  When asked to lead, I sometimes agree, and have done so successfully.  And then there are times when it’s unavoidable not to lead.  But more often than not, I respectfully decline leadership roles when asked because its requires that blocks of time and multiple tasks be scheduled on the calendar.  Some people are born managers and leaders.  But I’m not one of them, being too individualistic, egalitarian, distracted, and impulsive by nature.  Though I can lead, I prefer to put my life energy elsewhere.
