Given the abysmal pay, the chronic deadlines, and the invited heckling that comes with my Hartford Courant columns, I wouldn’t be able to do it unless I saw it as an important part of my "scholarly engagement" at UConn, where I’m adequately compensated. Hence, I see this task as an opportunity to help inform public dialogue about new developments, and to help steer public policy in the direction I think it should be going.
